Yarra enjoys a rich and proud heritage.
Heritage is the story of our community and environment, reflecting different periods of time and celebrating events that helped shape Yarra.
Heritage includes tangible features, like historical buildings and precincts, landscapes, streetscapes, archaeological sites, objects, collections and records.
It also includes intangible features, like cultural practices, stories, traditions, folklore and other knowledge inherited over generations.
There are several ways our heritage is recognised including:
- Aboriginal heritage
- Natural heritage
- Built and residential heritage
- Cultural heritage
- Industrial heritage
Protecting our heritage is an integral part of planning and development for Yarra.
