Yarra Decides Hub

In the lead up to the State Election, we're calling on all parties and candidates to step up and commit to providing what our City needs.

Advocacy Roadmap

Yarra City Council has adopted an Advocacy Roadmap 2025-29 [ PDF, 2.46 MB] , outlining how Council’s advocacy activities will support delivery of the Council Plan 2025-29

Fundamentally, the Roadmap responds to government policy settings that will impact the City of Yarra today and into the future, with the Victorian Government designating the City of Yarra as an ‘activity centre’, with a target of 44,000 new dwellings by 2050.

Securing funding and unused government land to deliver open space and community infrastructure to match the growth requires strong advocacy to the Victorian and Federal governments.

Adequate kindergarten places, free health services for our most vulnerable community members, social and affordable housing, playgrounds, sports facilities, trunk infrastructure, and safe and accessible transport options are just a few of the critical advocacy items in this Roadmap.

Climate action and resilience continues to be a focus, calling on the state to protect urban canopy, protect and restore biodiversity, support renters and vulnerable people to access adequate heating and cooling, and to upgrade stormwater infrastructure and drainage assets to mitigate the risk of local flooding.

The Roadmap highlights our community’s strong opposition to the wholesale demolition of the public housing towers without evidence that refurbishment is not an option. Long-standing support for the medically supervised injecting continues but, on behalf of the community, Yarra is calling on the Victorian Government to relocate the North Richmond facility to a more appropriate site.

The Advocacy Roadmap will be updated as Council adopts new decisions and priorities. Progress will be reported regularly here and through Council’s publications.
