Exploring play space options for Cambridge Street Reserve

Tuesday 27 February 2024

Yarra City Council is dedicated to creating more open space across our city.

This is especially important for areas like Collingwood that has the least amount of open space (only 0.3%) out of all Yarra's suburbs.

With this in mind, we set to work creating Collingwood's biggest park by expanding Cambridge Street Reserve in 2023. When we originally consulted with the community on the expansion of the reserve, the majority wanted more open space for people to gather, relax and connect with nature.

After the park opened in October 2023, we received feedback from community members that were interested in seeing more traditional play opportunities for children reintroduced to the park.

At the Council Meeting on 13 February, Council resolved to consult with community on options for additional play equipment and other play elements. Now is your chance to have your say!

What is Council considering?

  • removing the existing pull up and turnover bars and installing a four-way rocker and mini trampoline beside the existing swing
  • providing additional natural play elements, meandering playful linear detail and four-square play
  • removing up to 7% of the existing grass area and installing additional play equipment.

Have your say

We are open to considering community needs as they emerge. Your feedback will help inform recommendations back to Council for a final decision.

Share your thoughts by completing the online survey before 9am on Monday 25 March.
