Work is progressing to finalise the design of the new alignment for the replacement M41 water main.

This water main runs through parts of Yarra, from Merri Creek, Northcote to Edinburgh Gardens, under Queens and Alexandra parades through to George Street, Fitzroy. The route follows George Street to Victoria Parade, and then runs through the Fitzroy Gardens to Wellington Parade.

The existing water main runs under Edinburgh Gardens and Melbourne Water are working with us to find a suitable replacement alignment in the area. Melbourne Water has listened to feedback about the importance of Edinburgh Gardens to the community. Our priority is to ensure we retain the elm trees lining the existing alignment, and mature trees in Edinburgh Gardens.

The new alignment must take into consideration a number of important factors, such as social and environmental impacts, as well as technical requirements and cost considerations. In the coming weeks, this work will determine Melbourne Water’s preferred alignment.

Once this had been determined, they will provide more information via email, community bulletins and community information sessions. Construction is expected to start at the end of 2017 and will take approximately 18 months to two years to complete.

NEW PROJECT

Alexandra Parade main drain re-decking project

Melbourne Water is planning to replace around 400 metres of deteriorating concrete roof deck panels under the median on Alexandra Parade.

The Alexandra Parade main drain is a deep bluestone storm water drain that runs under the median of Alexandra Parade. The drain is covered by concrete panels, which need to be replaced in some areas so that the maintenance vehicles can safely work on the grass above.

Work will take place between, Brunswick St in Fitzroy, and Gold St in Collingwood. The work is expected to commence in September 2017 and take around six months to complete.
