The Yarra Community Awards Selection Panel judge the nominations for our annual Community Awards - a key initiative of our vision to celebrate and acknowledge the outstanding contributions of the everyday heroes who make Yarra such a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

Expressions of interest to join the panel for our 2024 Yarra Community Awards open on Monday 20 May and close on Sunday 30 June.

What’s involved

Panel members will attend a short induction workshop to learn about their responsibilities and processes involved in the role.

Then, they will assess nominations online based on our selection criteria and scoring matrix, before meeting to decide on winners of each category.

These activities will take place across July and August 2024 for approximately 3 weeks.

Panel members will be provided with support from our staff and connection with our community whilst helping us achieve our goal in community strengthening.

Members and a guest will also be invited to the Community Awards Ceremony on Thursday 12 December 2024.

Who we are looking for

We’re looking for people who reflect Yarra’s diversity and are available across July and August 2024.

Community Awards Selection Panel members are selected on the basis of:

a strong link to the City of Yarra: people who live, work, volunteer, study or have another connection to Yarra
a reasonable representation to reflect the diverse community: consideration to factors such as gender, cultural background and age are given when appointing members
relevant experience, and knowledge of the Yarra community
previous community award winners and previous or current members of Council’s advisory committees and/or community grants panel are eligible for this role.

Please note: if you are accepted as a member of the Selection Panel you cannot nominate or be nominated for an award whilst in this role. You must also declare any intention of running for the City of Yarra council elections this year.

Complete the short online Expression of Interest (EOI) form with your contact details, tell us why you’re interested and what skills you can bring to the panel.

Expressions of interest open on Monday 20 May and close on Sunday 30 June 2024. You will be notified of the outcome in early July.
