Volunteering in Yarra

We provide support and opportunities for volunteers and volunteer organisations across the City of Yarra.

We support volunteers and leaders of volunteers with skills development, awards and events, networking, grants, discounted venue hire and partnerships with other community organisations.

Celebrating Yarra's volunteers

National Volunteer Week (20-26 May 2024) is an opportunity to acknowledge the important contributions volunteers make to our community.

There’s a place for everyone in the world of volunteering. Whether you’re drawn to environmental causes, community outreach, education, or beyond, you can use your skills and interests to make a real difference.

Our volunteer programs

Our council-led volunteer programs include a diverse cohort of volunteers who work alongside paid staff to add value in delivering our community outreach objectives. There are a variety of ways we do this, such as:

  • Social support through the Home Libraries Service, Chatty Cafe and Thread Together Store
  • Digital literacy through Learning Bank’s Digital Help service
  • Aged and disability support through the Companion Animal Support program
  • Intergenerational kindergarten programs through Seniors and Sprouts
  • Protecting nature and diversity through the Gardens for Wildlife program
