Local Area Place Making Plan (LAPM)

A sub-precinct of LAPM 11, including George and Gore streets, between Webb Street and St David Street (identified by a pink rectangle in the concept plan), has been the focus of continued consultation with local residents to determine the best method to reduce through-traffic on George and Gore streets.

LAPM 11 Concept Plan

Cost

$350,000

Outcomes

In May 2010, VicRoads provided approval for the speed limit in the area to be reduced to 40km/h.

At our Council meeting on 28 June 2011, we noted a report that reviewed implemented traffic measures at the south end of Gore Street in Fitzroy between Victoria Parade and Gertrude Street.

An assessment of the traffic treatments (including the results of the left-turn bans which showed a 71% reduction in traffic during peak afternoon times) indicated that non-local through traffic in the street has been effectively reduced.
