Permits and consents

Prior to building in Yarra, you must check what permits and consents you need. All permit and consent applications must be lodged online.

Building permit applications You need a building permit for most commercial, industrial and residential developments.
Building Protection Works Notice Lodge a Protection Works Notice when construction works impact adjoining Yarra City Council properties including roads, footpaths, parks and laneways.
Report and Consent A report and consent is the process for consulting with and obtaining the approval of a reporting authority when building work may affect assets, infrastructure or amenity of the community.
Asset protection You will need an asset protection permit if your works require a Building Permit.
Construction Management Plan Find out how to put together a Construction Management Plan (CMP)
Deliveries to site Find out what is defined as a delivery.
Out of hours permits Find out how to apply for an out of hours permit.
Road occupation You need a road/footpath occupation permit if you need to occupy Yarra City Council land.
Road footpath opening Works may include connecting new services such as water, underground power supply, stormwater or reinstatement of our asset.
Road closures and Traffic Management Information Find out if your works or event requires a road closure or Traffic Management Plan.
Skip bins If you are placing a skip bin on our land you will need a permit.
Temporary vehicle crossing Apply for a temporary vehicle crossing permit.
National Heavy Vehicle Regulator National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) manages and coordinates the access of road networks for the heavy vehicle industry.
Permanent vehicle crossings If you are constructing a permanent vehicle crossing on Yarra Council land you need a permit.
Utility works You may need a consent from the coordinating Road Authority (unless an exemption applies).
