Resolutions and other motions from the Council Meeting on 14 May 2024

At Tuesday night’s Council Meeting, Council:  

  • endorsed the Yarra Multicultural Partnerships Policy. 
  • endorsed a number of Community Grants streams to be initiated in 2024/25, subject to the final approval of the 2024/25 Council Budget. 
  • resolved to advocate for the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into the Demolition of Public Housing Towers to engage public housing residents through proactive outreach,
  • accessible communication, and meaningful dialogue, highlighting Yarra’s significant public housing population.
  • supported the proposal for the World Heritage listing of portable buildings and resolved to collaborate with other councils to advance the initiative.
  • accepted a proposal from the Department of Transport and Planning to take management responsibility of the ‘Secret Garden’ community garden space at Ballarat Street in Collingwood.

  • Governance Report - May 2024 
  • Delegates’ reports from: 
    - Business Advisory Group
    - Active Ageing Advisory Committee and Disability Advisory Committee
    - Northern Alliance for Greenhouse Action 

 Notices of Motion:  

  • Council recognised the life-saving impact of the Medically Supervised Injecting Service (MSIR) in North Richmond, expressed disappointment at the decision not to establish a second MSIR in Melbourne’s CBD, and called on the State Government to establish multiple MSIRs in Victoria.
