Additional drop-off service for green and hard waste

Thursday 30 April 2020

Since Coronavirus (COVID-19) mobility restrictions took effect we have seen an increase in the amount of green and hard waste items disposed of and collected in Yarra.

To support households with surplus green waste or hard waste items, we are temporarily offering an additional service for residents to drop these items off at the Clifton Hill Depot on select weekends in May. This is an additional service separate to the recycling drop-off centre, which will continue to operate seven days of per week.

On Saturdays and Sundays between 9am to 4:45pm from 9 May to 31 May residents can drop accepted green waste or hard waste items at the Depot.

To access this temporary drop-off service you will need to provide proof that you are a Yarra resident i.e. a rates notice or driver’s license with your home address on it.

If you have made a booking for your hard or green waste to be collected, but would like to drop it off instead, let our staff know when you visit and your booking can be cancelled.

What can I drop off at the depot?

  • There is a limit of one single-axle trailer for both green and waste items per household.
  • Green waste must not contain palm fronds as they get tangled in the shredding equipment and damage machinery. They need to go in your red-lidded rubbish bin.
  • We can only accept hard rubbish items that can be safely disposed of. To find out which items you can drop-off at the depot, visit our page on hard rubbish collections.
