Five Big Ways to Take Climate Action: Get Up, Stand Up - Have Your Say on Climate

Wednesday 19 June 2024

Hear from inspirational changemakers who have raised their voices to create a better future. Learn how to have your voice heard and join with others to take action on the climate crisis.

We know from history that systemic change is only achieved when we come together as a united movement.

We cannot address the magnitude of the climate emergency alone. Come along to this evening of inspiration as we hear from a panel of change makers who will tell us more about the different ways we can work together to create the change we want to see.

We’ll discuss topics including:

  • what our democratic rights are – how to be an active participant in our democracy
  • changing systems through grassroots movements
  • experiences of working/volunteering in the climate movement and successes and learnings
  • successful community organising and campaigning

Speakers include:

Kelly O’Shannessy - CEO of Australian Conservation Foundation
Netta Maiava, Coordinator (Naarm/Melbourne), Pacific Climate Warriors
Abby Manning – Leader for Melbourne/Naarm, Tomorrow Movement
Leigh Ewbank, Senior Climate Outreach Manager, Climate Action Network Australia

The event will be hosted and facilitated by Tony Milne, Executive Director of Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre who has a wealth of experience campaigning for social justice.

There will also be an opportunity to mingle afterwards and meet representatives from a number of Yarra focused environment and climate groups. It will be a great opportunity to hear about lots of different ways people are Taking Climate Action in Yarra, and how you can get involved.

This event is being hosted by Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre in partnership with Yarra City Council. The event is part of Yarra's 5 Big Ways to Take Climate Action, – a project supporting locals to take climate action and push for urgent change in the ways we live, work and play.
