Journeying through my landscape exhibition

Wednesday 07 November 2018 - Friday 23 November 2018

Cambridge Studio Gallery are hosting the Journey through my life exhibition by Astrid Dahl from Wednesday 7 November to Friday 23 November.

The exhibition is free and will be open to the public from 12pm to 5pm Wednesday to Sunday.

Astrid Dahl spoke about her work - "I feel privileged to live among a diversity of landscapes. I am inspired by the unknown, interacting with the known in the natural elements. Nature can be gentle and benign while there is always a dark side that represents danger. To me the landscape can be, fragile, ferocious, awe-inspiring and at times humbling and fearful – quite often, simultaneously. The Australian Landscape, at times, pushes the tolerance of human existence while shocking us with its sublime beauty and subtle contrasts! I try to show this dichotomy in my painting.

My work shifts between being ‘more abstract’ and ‘less abstract’, depending on my environment and reflective thoughts. The transitionally of life on earth (and my life) dictate my creative responses which are subject to those changes and mutations. I persevere on being authentic to the ‘moment’ and clarifying that moment in time, as I am working. That ‘moment’ is also constantly changing.

Processes, techniques, and mediums are my vehicles, (that I explore with curiosity) as they guide me towards the end result. With, or without too much intervention, sometimes making me feel redundant as my paintings take on a life of their own. This may take weeks, months and even sometimes, years.

I only realize the conclusion to each piece when I reach a place of stillness."

Magupela's work will also be featured in the ARTlounge. “Magupela” (Nito Dos Santos) hails from Mozambique. He has been living and exhibiting in Melbourne since 2005.

He draws his inspiration from his experiences as a young artist whose adolescent years were during the height of the Mozambican civil war. His trademark colours and figures still feature prominently in his work but the influence of his adopted country, and in particular the migrant community he has forged links with, can also be seen.
