Watch Around Water
Yarra Leisure is proud to provide a safe and family friendly environment across all its leisure facilities where children can enjoy the water.
In 2009, Yarra Leisure introduced ‘Watch Around Water’ regulations to help increase parental supervision of children in and around the water.
The ‘Watch Around Water’ program is the combined effort of Aquatics & Recreation Victoria, Life Saving Victoria and the ‘Play it Safe by the Water’ campaign. The program is designed to ensure parents and children always have a safe and enjoyable time around water.
Parent with child under 5 years
Supervising adults must be in the water at all times, within arm’s reach of the child. Each supervising adult may only supervise up to a maximum of 3 children.
Parent with child 5 - 9 years
The parent/guardian must position himself or herself within the water or poolside so as to have a clear view of the child with no physical or structural barriers between them and the child, and be prepared to enter the water.
Parent with child 10 - 15 years
Parents must use their knowledge of the child’s swimming ability to determine accompaniment required.
These regulations apply to all aquatic facilities in Yarra – Collingwood Leisure Centre, Fitzroy Swimming Pool and the Richmond Recreation Centre.
