Yarra schools gear up for Ride2School Day
9 February 2015
Council is encouraging Yarra schools to get involved in Bicycle Network’s Ride2School Day on Friday 13 March.
This national event is a great way to embrace healthier lifestyles and demonstrate just how easy and enjoyable riding can be.
Schools can register now to receive a resource pack containing posters and stickers to help promote the big day.
Last year’s event was a tremendous success, with 19 Yarra schools joining more than 900 others throughout the state.
Council is supporting and expanding upon this year’s Ride2School Day with its Walk or Wheel Once a Week (WoW) pilot program involving four local schools (St John’s Primary School, Merri Creek Primary School and Trinity Catholic Primary School).
Each school will nominate a day of the week on which to promote active travel and students will record their participation on that day right through to the end of Term 2 in June.
Students will receive WoW Yarra shoelaces to mark their involvement in the program.
One class at each of the four schools will receive a Golden Boot Award to recognise their outstanding participation.
