Upgrades to Merri Creek Trail
23 December 2015
Council will begin work in 2016 on the Merri Creek Trail and Coulson Ramp to provide a safer alternative route for Merri Creek Trail users.
The works are part of the 2015-2016 Capital Works Program and will involve creation of a new shared path and boardwalk.
Construction will involve a new path along Heidelberg Road to George Knott Reserve and a 90 metre ramped boardwalk from Coulson Reserve to the Clifton Hill rail bridge – a recommendation of the Merri Creek Trail Review (2006) and Yarra Bicycle Strategy 2010-2015.
Works will be completed in two stages, with Stage One to begin in February 2016, taking approximately eight months.
To allow for the construction of this project, woody weeds and 28 selected trees along Coulson Reserve and the current escarpment must be removed. Removal will begin in early 2016.
Planning permissions are not required for this project, which once completed will provide an improved and more accessible alternative for all path users.
