Opportunity to have your say on Alphington development in 2015
17 December 2014
In early 2015, Council will ask the community to have their say on a proposal to develop the former Amcor paper mill in Alphington.
Developers Alpha Partners and Glenvill are proposing to turn the vacant 16.5 hectare site into a major residential precinct, with shops, offices, open spaces and community facilities.
A draft Development Plan for the site has been submitted to Council, which contains information about what the development will include and how aspects of the project including traffic, transport, open space and the river environment will be addressed.
Council officers are reviewing the draft Development Plan and have requested adjustments to some documentation to ensure the plan meets the necessary planning requirements.
Once those documents are finalised, the complete draft Development Plan will be exhibited publically for community feedback.
The plan will be available online and in hardcopy at a number of Council facilities.
In the New Year, Council will provide information to the community about where to view the plan and how to provide feedback, as well as details of information sessions where both the developers and Council will be available to answer questions.
Residents who live near the site will receive a newsletter from Council explaining how they can be involved in the process.
Our community will have 28 days to provide feedback on the proposal, with comments to be considered by Council as part of its assessment of the plan.
Council is expected to consider whether or not to approve the Development Plan at a public meeting in mid-2015.
In the meantime, if you require further information, contact Council’s Strategic Planning Unit on 9205 5374.
