Local sports clubs to benefit from $1.5m Fairfield Pavilion
1 December 2015
Community members and local sports clubs gathered in Fairfield Park on Saturday to celebrate the opening of the new $1.5m Fairfield Pavilion.
Delivered as part of Council’s comprehensive Fairfield Park Master Plan, this accessible and inclusive centre was funded in partnership with the Victorian Government. It includes unisex change rooms to boost participation by women and girls, as well as environmentally sustainable design features such as water harvesting. The new facility will support 160 games of football and 80 games of cricket per year, as well as mid-week training.
Speaking at the opening, Yarra Mayor, Cr Roberto Colanzi, thanked local clubs such as Fitzroy City Soccer Club, Yarra Jets Soccer Club, Fairfield Cricket Club and Edinburgh Cricket Club, for their involvement in the project. Cr Colanzi also acknowledged the generous support of the State Government and Football Federation Victoria.
Fairfield Pavilion is just the latest example of Yarra’s commitment to community sport, which in recent years has included a turf upgrade at Citizens Park oval, a new pavilion at Ramsden Street Reserve, and sports and recreation grants to help grow local clubs.
