Australia Day and NYE in Edinburgh Gardens
New Year's Eve
The consumption of alcohol is banned on New Year's Eve across all of Yarra’s parks and open spaces, including Edinburgh Gardens.
The ban will be in place from 9pm on Wednesday 30 December 2015 through to 9am on Friday 1 January 2016.
People are being encouraged to leave glass at home and amplified music is not permitted in public areas.
While people are welcome to celebrate at Edinburgh Gardens, there will be zero tolerance for anti-social behaviour. Police, Council’s Local Laws officers and security staff will be in attendance to enforce the bans and to encourage positive crowd behaviour.
Event staff will be in attendance at the Gardens from 11am on 31 December until 2am on 1 January. Council has also organised additional toilets, bins and lighting for the night.
Council clean-up crews will also be on site until 1am on 31 December, then from 6am on 1 January to remove any rubbish left behind from the celebrations.
Whilst the police, event staff and first aid services will be present on the night, if you have concerns about crowd behaviour or safety, please contact Council’s after-hours service on 9205 5555. In the event of an emergency, please call 000.
No restrictions on alcohol consumption in Yarra's parks apply on Australia Day. As per Council's Local Law 8, alcohol is permitted from 9am-9pm.
Police, Council’s Local Laws officers and security staff will be in attendance at Edinburgh Gardens to ensure community safety and encourage positive crowd behaviour during the day and night.
People are encouraged to leave glass at home and reminded that amplified music is not permitted.
