Cr Sam Gaylard

Cr Sam GaylardA Yarra resident for more than 30 years, Cr Gaylard believes Council must provide strong leadership to encourage local residents and businesses to tackle big issues such as climate change and making Yarra resilient.

Cr Gaylard was elected as a Greens Councillor representing Nicholls Ward (North Carlton, North Fitzroy, Princes Hill, and parts of Fitzroy, Clifton Hill and Collingwood) in November 2008.

“As the level of government that is closest to its people, local government is in the driver’s seat when it comes to actually effecting change,” Cr Gaylard said.

“We need to make it as simple and inexpensive as possible for energy efficient measures to be introduced into local homes and businesses,” he said.

“The establishment of the Yarra Energy Foundation, funded by Council to assist residents decrease their greenhouse gas emissions, demonstrates local government’s leadership role.”

Cr Gaylard has worked on developing Council’s Bicycle Strategy (which calls for the construction of five on-road separated bike paths), actively supports the development of community gardens and has promoted Council’s objective of providing sustainable waste management practices such as recycling and toxic waste disposal.
