Curtain Square Community Advisory Committee

Curtain-Square-13

In late 2010, Council established a community advisory committee to help it map out the best approach for managing the welfare of trees and possums in North Carlton’s Curtain Square.

The Committee recommended a series of actions which were considered by Council in July 2011. The recommended actions included: restricting the fertility of the possums, bringing in a local law to ban public feeding of possums, and introducing extra measures such as banding and mulching to protect the trees.

Here is more information on what was proposed, and the background on this issue.

Community feedback on the proposed trial was sought during July and August 2011. The feedback was presented to Council's September meeting.  At that meeting, Council decided to proceed with the two-year trial.

Committee membership

Council sought expressions of interest from the community to join this committee in October and November 2010.
