Sports Participation Sponsorship
Council's Sports Participation Sponsorship grants are allocated quarterly to locally-based amateur athletes to help them meet the costs associated with high-level sports participation.
Financial support is available for athletes competing at international and national levels of competition. Council also offers grants to assist athletes at the development level, and to assist sports teams.
This is an ongoing program with four annual assessment dates. Applicants should submit their application to the round which falls prior to their anticipated participation date/s.
The closing assessment dates for 2011/2012 are: 2 September 2011, 2 December 2011, 2 March 2012, and 1 June 2012.

Please find below some guidelines and information about the grants:
International level of competition
Council offers grants to a maximum value of $500 for applicants competing at an International level of competition.
An international level of competition includes the Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games, Paralympics Games and World Championship Events.
National level of competition
Council offers grants to a maximum value of $300 for applicants competing at a National level of competition.
Development level
Council offers grants to a maximum value of $500 to assist applicants with development within their chosen sport.
Team sponsorship
Council will consider applications for sponsorship to a maximum value of $1000 to assist local teams to compete at any of the above levels of competition (N.B. at least 75% of the team's members must be residents of Yarra).
Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received funding from Council, although applicants are eligible to receive up to two sponsorship allocations during one funding year.
Definition of a Sporting Event
- Must have a set of rules and a code of conduct
- Must be competitive in nature
- Must be an event officially recognised by the code of sport’s Federal or State Body. A letter of support from a Federal or State Body must be provided with all applications, except those at Development level where the letter can come from a sporting club.
