How to pay your rates

Rate Notices for the 2011/2012 financial year were sent out to all Yarra ratepayers in August 2011.

Ratepayers were given the option of paying their rates by:

Please note: late payments can result in an interest penalty of 10.5% per annum and possible legal action for rate recovery. Here is more information on overdue rates and payment arrangements.


Quarterly Instalments

Can be paid by either direct debit or using these payment methods. Quarterly instalments are due by the following dates:

First instalment - Friday 30 September 2011
Second instalment - Wednesday 30 November 2011
Third instalment - Wednesday 29 February 2012
Fourth instalment - Thursday 31 May 2012




Ten Monthly Instalments

Monthly instalments can only be made by direct debit. Rate payments are automatically debited from the supplied bank account on the day they fall due. Payments will be due on the 15th of the month, starting on 15 September 2011 and ending on 15 June 2012. 

Please note:
if you have not already submitted the completed direct debit request form to Council, it is too late to make arrangements to pay by monthly instalments in the 2011/2012 year. However, you can nominate now to pay your rates by direct debit in 2012/2013 and beyond. Please fill in this Direct Debit Request Form.pdf (339.94kB) and send it to rates@yarracity.vic.gov.au or to: the Rates Department, P.O. Box 168, Richmond 3121.

Your direct debit agreement will continue until you notify Council that you wish to end the agreement. Please do so in writing by contacting the Rates Department at rates@yarracity.vic.gov.au or at P.O. Box 168, Richmond 3121.




Payment in Full

You can pay in full using these payment methods.
Direct debit is not available for people who choose to pay their rates in full.

Payments in full are due by Wednesday 15 February 2012.

By Post Billpay

Over the telephone or internet. Payments can be made by American Express, Visa or Mastercard. Call 131 816 or go to www.postbillpay.com.au

By BPay

Over the telephone or internet. Contact your participating bank, credit union or building society. Biller code: 171074. Quote the BPAY reference number printed on your rates notice.

In person

Over the counter at any Post Office, or at Council offices. Payments will be accepted by cash, EFTPOS or cheque. Please make cheques payable to Yarra City Council.

By mail

Please detach the payment slip from your Rate Notice, and mail it with a cheque made out to Yarra City Council, to: P.O. Box 168, Richmond 3121. Note: receipts cannot be issued for mail payments.
