Sea Scouts building in Abbotsford
In late July 2011, Council's Internal Development Approvals Committee (IDAC) approved a permit for the demolition of the 1950s Sea Scouts building in Abbotsford.
The timber building in Eddy Court has not been used for some time and is in poor condition. Here is a media release that was issued after IDAC approved a permit for the demolition.
Council delayed the demolition until it had considered a report into the condition of all Council-owned buildings in the Collingwood Town Hall precinct and of all vacant Council buildings in Yarra. That report was considered at a Council meeting on 21 February 2012. To read a summary of the report, go to page 32 of the meeting's agenda or read the report at attachment 10.5.1.
After considering the report, Council decided to proceed with the demolition of the Sea Scouts building. The building is expected to be demolished in April or May 2012.
Background
In November 2010, Council's Infrastructure divison lodged an application with Council's Statutory Planning department for a permit to demolish the building.
In December 2010 and January 2011, Council invited community feedback on the demolition proposal. Ten community members objected to the demolition. Those objections were considered by IDAC before it made its decision to approve the demolition permit.
