Council manages alcohol-related issues in a number of ways, including:
- determining the location and approval of licensed premises through its planning process
- creating safe public spaces through urban design
- maintaining the amenity of public spaces
- working in partnership with organisations and community groups
- working with families and individuals to address alcohol-related issues.
The plan recommends that to effectively manage alcohol-related issues and minimise the negative impacts of alcohol Council must:
- build teamwork across relevant departments
- adopt a collaborative problem-solving approach to alcohol impacts
- improve data collection and analysis to build a picture of what is happening in the community and share this information
- participate in research partnerships to gain better evidence about the impacts of alcohol on the community.
