The strategy is underpinned by a vision for the City of Yarra to be a creative place where dynamic, diverse, vibrant arts activities thrive and our citizens enjoy arts and culture as an everyday experience.
Through funding, facilitation and advocacy, Council aims to make arts and culture prominent in Yarra activities, and to make arts and culture easier to practise, and easier to participate in.
This will be achieved across Council’s four programs - arts development, community arts, festivals and events, and the art and heritage collection.
Background
In September 2010, Council called for public submissions on a Discussion Paper about what the strategy should include.
The Discussion Paper included an arts and cultural audit, with a particular focus on venues in Yarra, and was informed by extensive consultations with the community.
Council called for community feedback on a draft Arts and Cultural Strategy during November 2010.
