LATMS 14 North Richmond

Cars parked in Church StreetCouncil is conducting a Local Area Traffic Management Scheme (LATMS) in North Richmond in the area bounded by Victoria Street to the north, Church Street to the east, Bridge Road to the south and Hoddle Street to the west. This area is known as LATMS 14.

Council conducts regular LATMS studies across Yarra to reduce traffic and improve conditions for cyclists and pedestrians.

Council first wrote to residents in the LATMS 14 area in February 2011, seeking feedback on how traffic conditions could be improved.

Council received a number of submissions that have been used to develop a draft plan for the area. The draft plan aims to address some of the issues raised by residents, including ‘rat running’ on local streets and high traffic volumes on major roads.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Investigating improvements to several intersections

  • In Judd Street, proposing that there be no entry into Bridge Road, but that it remain two-way from McGoun Street and existing driveways to the south. This would affect deliveries as these vehicles would have to enter Judd Street from Bridge Road. Access to the apartments would be from either direction with exit only to the north.

Other work to be undertaken in the LATMS 14 area includes constructing two traffic islands in Hull Street at the intersection of Bosisto Street. These works are part of a condition set by VCAT for a development at 243 – 249A Bridge Road, and will commence when major construction of the development is complete.

Work on the detailed design process for the proposed traffic treatments in LATMS 14 has commenced, and Council will consult further with the community in the immediate area concerning the exact nature and location of the proposed treatments.

Residents and members of the community can provide comments and further suggestions to Council by contacting Dennis Cheng, Senior Traffic Engineer, on 9205 5741 or at Dennis.Cheng@yarracity.vic.gov.au
