Bicycle lane improvements in Elizabeth Street, Richmond

Council will commence works to improve the bike lane in Elizabeth Street, Richmond at the end of February 2012.

The improvements will involve painting bike lane markings in Elizabeth Street between Hoddle and Church streets.

The lane is intended to provide cyclists with better access to the CBD, by linking with the existing bike lane in Albert Street, East Melbourne.

Pedestrian facilities at the Elizabeth Street and Shelley Street intersection will also be improved, with a median island to be installed that will allow pedestrians to cross the street in stages.

Stage one of the project is expected to be complete by mid-March and will cost $120,000.

Stage two of the project will involve Council looking at ways to improve access for cyclists at the Church Street and Elizabeth Street intersection and at the Hoddle Street and Albert Street intersection. Improvements to these areas would require approval from VicRoads.
