Local History collection

All branches of Yarra Libraries have a Local History collection. Larger collections are held in the Richmond, Fitzroy and Collingwood libraries, with smaller collections available at Carlton and North Fitzroy.

Many local history files have now been transferred to our online catalogue. Our collection is continually increasing, so it's always worthwhile searching the catalogue. Our collection consists of items such as books, photographs and newspaper clippings.

  • A booking to use the non-print materials may be required.
  • Bookings can be made by phone or in person.
  • If you require help in locating these resources, please ask a staff member for assistance.

Local History Collection Development Policy

Library members and the general public were recently invited to comment on the docx format draft Local History Collection Development Policy (47.52kB)

The policy is aimed at complementing the development of the Yarra Arts and Heritage Collection and the work of Yarra's four local historical societies.

During 2011, the draft policy was distributed to local history community groups and library staff with a special interest in local history for review and feedback.

Council is expected to adopt a final policy in mid-2012, taking on board feedback received from the community.
