Park rules and event permits (Edinburgh Gardens)
Edinburgh Gardens is one of Yarra's most popular and historic parks.
Facilities (including barbeques, tennis courts, a basketball court, two playgrounds and sports fields) are spread out over 24 hectares.
During the summer months, Edinburgh Gardens sees thousands of people competing for space for social activities.
Council has a number of park usage guidelines in place to ensure park users and nearby residents are not impacted by the increased social activities at this time.
When are you required to apply for a park permit?
You are required to obtain a park permit if your event or gathering meets one or more of the following criteria:
- Your gathering has 40 plus persons
- There is audible sound being used that may be heard from the park boundary
- Structures may be used including amusements and marquees
- Commercial activity is planned in park
- A vehicle requires access to the park
- A reservation is required for the event
- You plan to erect a sign or direction board
Noise
No music noise is allowed to be audible outside the park boundary at any time without a permit.
Any gathering of 40 or more persons where music is being played or a sound producing device is used also requires a permit, regardless of noise levels.
People found playing noise at unacceptably loud levels can be fined up to $2000.
For more information about park usage requirements and permits, contact one of Council's Facilities and Events Liaison Officers on 9205 5205.
Events
Events in Council parks and reserves are subject to an event application process that aims to ensure events comply with relevant legislation and local laws, that they are appropriate for the location and do not conflict with other activities.
An application is required to conduct events and one-off or regular commercial or community activities in an open space, including exercise classes, personal training activities and regular group gatherings (over 30 people).
As well as meeting Council's criteria, applicants will also be expected to have Public Liability Cover as well as other relevant statutory permits and licences.
