Atherton Reserve Design Development Plan
In late 2011, Council carried out a number of improvements to Atherton Reserve in Fitzroy.
They included:
- a new path into the reserve from Napier Street, providing better access into and across the park
- cricket practice nets
- new seating and signs
- realigning the soccer pitch to prevent balls running onto Napier Street
- new garden beds to the northern boundary of the reserve.
Council sought public comment on these proposals in February 2011.
Eleven submissions were received during the consultation, the details of which were presented to Council in April 2011.
Based on the options presented to Council (and outlined in the PDF documents below), Council resolved:
-
to endorse the detailed design development plan for Atherton Reserve
-
to endorse the construction of a cricket facility at the site identified as Option C (Attachment 2), on the south west corner of Atherton Reserve
-
that construction of the cricket facility is dependent on Council securing $20,000 or 50% of the cost of the cricket facility from the Office of Housing
-
to explore additional funding via Cricket Australia or other sources but not so as to delay the project.
$100,000 for the works was been allocated in the 2011/12 budget.
The upgrade of Atherton Reserve is part of the Fitzroy Town Hall Public Realm Precinct Plan which aims to improve accessibility and amenity in public areas around the town hall, including Whitlam Place, Condell Street Reserve and surrounding streets.
