Yarra City Council has been recognised at the 2023 Victorian Architecture Awards, with conservation works at Fitzroy Town Hall to restore ceilings winning an award.
The heritage-listed Collingwood Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall is set to be restored and will offer support services to a younger generation of returned service people and veterans.
We're improving the streetscape outside the Richmond Town Hall and former police building, and want to hear your thoughts on some draft designs.
These upgrades will increase greenery and provide a more enjoyable visitor experience to the area.
What's proposed
The proposed draft Concept Design aims to:
recognise and celebrate the civic importance of Richmond Town Hall and the former Police Station
provide an attractive and flexible space with different types of seating
include tree planting and greenery to enhance the current streetscape
be respectful to its setting and provide an understated approach to highlight the surrounding buildings' heritage
These upgrades only focus on the public spaces outside the Richmond Town Hall and former Police Station.

Yarra Council has achieved a significant milestone in its work to protect the city’s much-loved and valuable heritage buildings, places and streetscapes, with the introduction of planning heritage protection to a number of additional properties and precincts in north and central Richmond.
The Life and Times of Fitzroy from the 1950s, is an oral history project produced by the Fitzroy History Society which has recorded the memories and stories of 30 long-term residents of Fitzroy.
