Expressions of Interest are now open to join Burnley Cottage Committee

A small house in a park on a sunny day

We’re seeking committed community members to help redefine how Burnley Cottage is used. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of this heritage site.

Burnley Cottage was built in the mid-1800s during the Victorian gold rush as a ranger’s residence. Unfortunately, in recent years it has fallen into disrepair and is now protected by hoarding.

In Late 2021 we reached out to the community to get your ideas and understand your preferences on how this important historical asset should be managed.

We received over 200 contributions from the community, with feedback covering a range of perspectives and interests. You can read more about the Burnley Cottage community consultation on the Your Say Yarra project page.

About the committee

As a committee member, you’ll work alongside Council Officers and Councillors to review and evaluate submissions and outcomes from the initial consultation process and collaborate on the development of the EOI document that will outline the future use of Burnley Cottage.

The committee will consist of 11 members, 9 of whom will be selected from the local community based on their direct interest in or impact by the park's operations.

We want members of the committee to have a range of positions on the future use of the building, including:

  • 3 people advocating for hospitality opportunities, including social enterprises
  • 3 people supporting a blend of social enterprise and community uses
  • 3 people supporting on exclusive community use of the space.

The remaining 2 positions will be dedicated to ensuring that heritage and environmental considerations are integrated into EOI process.
